John Merricks (JM) ILCA Fleet Policy

Ratified: 19th January 2026

Felpham Sailing Club maintains the John Merricks (JM) ILCA fleet to provide sailors with high-quality equipment for competitive ILCA events. This policy sets out the purpose, use, and management of the fleet.

Purpose

The JM ILCA fleet is reserved for:

  • ILCA Open Meetings
  • National and World Championships
  • Formal ILCA training events

The fleet may also be used occasionally for events where access to race-ready equipment benefits members. It is not intended for long-term loan, and members are encouraged to own their own ILCA dinghy. Allocation is based on commitment, responsibility, and participation in ILCA activities.

Loan and Return

  • Sign-Out: All equipment must be signed out and inspected upon return.
  • Usage Fees: £30 for a weekend/two-day event; £50 for longer events (2026 pricing – subject to confirmation)
  • Insurance and Damage: The fleet is insured. Users are responsible for minor repairs during their loan; major damage is managed on a case-by-case basis.

Club Training Pathway

The club also maintains two to three Laser dinghies with ILCA 4 rigs for regular club use. These boats provide a pathway for sailors developing skills before using the JM fleet.

Objectives

The policy ensures the fleet:

  • Supports sailors’ progression to high-level competition
  • Provides access to race-ready equipment for key events
  • Protects the fleet for sustainable, long-term use

The JM ILCA fleet remains a valuable club resource, supporting sailors of all ages to compete at the highest levels of ILCA sailing.
