Felpham Sailing Club are extremely proud to announce to our members and friends that we have been selected for the second year running as a finalist in the RYA Club of the Year 2020 awards – the winner of which will be announced at the Dinghy Show at Alexandra Palace in London on Saturday 29th February 2020.
“The Club of the Year Awards recognise the outstanding achievement of sailing clubs across the UK. This annual award recognises and promotes the hard work which goes into making sailing clubs successful. All 1000 sailing clubs from across the UK are eligible to apply, and ultimately take advantage of, and share examples of best practice within the sailing community. “
The RYA Awards Panel selected a finalist for each of the 10 RYA regions and Felpham are delighted to have been selected as the finalist for the London and South East region.
Felpham Sailing Club has been recognised for the category of “Innovative and Forward Thinking.”
‘Innovative and forward thinking’ – a recognition for a club who makes a break from traditional ways of running a club or delivering boating activity. This could be delivering activities at different times of the week, day or year, or organising different formats of training or racing to engage with new participants, etc.
In 2019 we were a finalist at the awards and a large group of club members attended the Dinghy Show to enjoy the exhibition, talks and to look at lots of shiny new boats! When the winners announcement was made later in the afternoon Felpham was unfortunately not the overall winner (well done to Royal Torbay Yacht Club) but to be selected as a finalist was something we should all be very proud of.
Hopefully in 2020 we’ll get our hands on this prestigious award.
10 finalists from all around the country have been selected with five of those clubs (Felpham being one of them) being recognised for a particular achievement (Innovative and forward thinking).
Voting opens on Friday 13 December.
