Covid-19/Coronavirus Update (24 April 2020)

Dear members,

I thought I’d give you an update on things at the Club. Apologies for the long message!

Of course, this wasn’t how any of us expected the 2020 season to go, but I hope you are well and staying in as much as possible.

Naturally, we continue to follow the Government guidance and the Club remains closed to all activities, sadly.

To that end, and I’m sure of no surprise, the Committee has decided to extend the closure through to 31st May and will continue to review this moving forwards.

How and when the lock-down situation may ease we simply don’t know, but the Club is in a great position to reopen (in some form) since we had already done all the pre-season maintenance work.

If the Government advice changed in the meantime, such that sailing could be allowed sooner, then we could adjust accordingly and are in a position to do so quite quickly.

Use of the interior of the Club, and specifically the bar, seems likely to be sometime away unfortunately with social distancing being the new norm for the foreseeable, I would imagine.

As you would expect, the Committee has put the Club in a position to weather this storm and we continue to have meetings via Zoom as well as more general discussion via email or occasionally in person if we bump (at a safe distance) into each other whilst on our daily walks.

With that in mind, if you are walking passed the Club you may see a Committee member popping into ensure all is ok, but other than that the doors remain closed I’m afraid.

Of course, if you are going by the Club as part of your daily exercise and happen to notice anything untoward please let me know.

Now some thank you’s…

Casey for her hard work in preparing the Club to be safely shutdown with a deep clean of the bar and canteen areas in particular.

Ross and Alison for their devilishly hard quiz!! More quizzes to come by the way

Josie and Debbie Kelly for organising and running the Virtual Regatta. I’m still yet to get racing myself but it looks like some great competition is being had.

Please check on the Facebook posts below on how to get involved… sailing and social members welcome.

And to all members, thanks for your continued support. Let’s keep the activity going on the Facebook page with your photos and memories of your time at the Club.

We will return and I’m sure we will appreciate our lovely Club even more!

Your Commodore,

Guy
