Covid-19/Coronavirus Update (17 March 2020)

Dear members,

Following yesterday’s announcements from the Government on the latest status of Covid19/Coronavirus I must reluctantly inform you that the Committee has decided that we will have to close the Club for social functions and activities with immediate effect.

Of course, we fully appreciate this will be very disappointing for all of us, but we are entering unprecedented times and we need to be mindful of our responsibilities as a Club to our members and employees. Therefore, we are acting in accordance with Government guidelines to reduce non-essential social contact.

Since I am sure you are all following the developing pandemic you will realise that we cannot place a date on when this period of closure will end, but rest assured we will regularly review this decision based upon all updates from relevant authorities.

The RYA has yet to update its information based on the Government’s position, but we are monitoring their news feed for guidance as to whether sailing can continue. To that end, your Committee is meeting in the coming days so we can keep you advised on how we move forwards.

Clearly, this is a very serious situation and we will act accordingly, whilst doing our very best for the Club and its membership.

Follow the advice, stay healthy and we will keep you informed.

Guy (your Commodore)
