WoW – Week 4

WOW – what a beautiful evening for a sail. Light 3-7 knots of south easterly wind, tide out, and beautiful sunshine, leading to pretty sunset.

Although it was only a small group of 8 sailors this week, due to injuries/illness, work commitments, visiting family and friends, and other reasons, the group still had a lot of fun with the team of instructors and helpers (8).

Three of the newest sailors – Marta, Mel and Emma had a go crewing and helming the Fevas with their instructors. This was quite a different experience to having a go in the picos and they found it challenging at times.

The more experienced sailors each took a pico out and started to perfect sailing around a triangular course using the five essentials. To make it more competitive and to encourage them to see what made the other boats go faster, we decided to run three races.

Sarah, Jo Allatt, Laura Simmonds, Deborah Robson all had a go leading the pack and discovering how to make their boat faster than the others. It was also great to see Terri Fellows out on the water again following a gap.

Thanks so much to Erin Aldis-Hobbs, Alex Mayger and Fin Swanton for sharing their knowledge and time with the newer sailors, as well as Jake Aldis-Hobbs and Lauren Bentley for providing safety cover, and of course Paula Bentley, co-leader of WOW.

The evening was finished off perfectly with a delicious curry prepared by Anita.
