WoW – Week 11

WoW – another great session with 25 women out on the water, including 18 sailors.

The conditions were a little more challenging than most had experienced with the sea breeze kicking in, high tide and a biggish sea for launch and recovery. Everyone did really well under the circumstances and had great fun challenging themselves to do new things.

We split the group into two groups with 6 boats and 8 sailors out doing a proper race around a triangular course. Steve Sampson and Sophie Bentley ran the race from the race office. Well done to all – in 2 lasers, 2 fevas, a pico and topper. Special mention goes to both Meg Brackley and Lynne Jones, who handled their lasers really well. The race was won, on corrected time, by Jo Andrews (great job!)

The second group consisted of very new sailors, those wanting a refresher, together with some assistant instructors. A sausage course was set up to continue to practice reaching and tacking. The windy conditions and big sea proved a challenge but at the same time provided an exciting experience. The five club picos together with the 2000 and the sailors were in their element.

Huge thanks to the safety team of Paula Bentley, Lauren Bentley, Abi Bentley, Roshana Nagi and Liam Vass who were kept busy in the two ribs.

This was then was followed up with a glass of wine and an excellent meal prepared by Roger Belton.

Terrific job everyone and thanks 🙂

PS. We have a vacancy for a chef for next week’s session. Either to create a meal of your choice or to heat up the pot luck meals in the freezer for the WOW group. Any offers?
